You could not pick up a computer magazine in the 80s without seeing some ads for new “personal computers”. The most affordable of those was the /Sinclair zx80. Then there was an ad to get and even less expensive solution the Sinclair ZX81 KIT. This was a board and case and parts that you had to put together. After much begging my parents purchased a kit for me for Christmas. I had received one of the first kits that came with the RED board. I followed the directions and had exactly 6 parts left over. After a few phone calls, it seemed that they had not finished the instructions, The power supply was not connected to the rest of the board, I was told to jumper the power, but it may need those other parts as they were seeing some power noise on the display with the jumpers in place.
